SX Mini, what the maker's own data says about the range
Search for SX Mini and Google hands you a mix of retailer collections, the maker’s homepage, second-hand listings and reviews of single models, many of them pods. Nothing tells you where the box mod range actually stands. The manufacturer publishes enough to find out, provided you read its catalogue, its firmware list, its manuals and its warranty policy. The Observatoire went through all four to take stock of YiHi’s brand.
Which SX Mini box mods does the maker still push?
Only two models carry the “new” flag in SXmini’s official catalogue, the MQ Class and the MQ Plus. Both are single-cell SX Mini mods, the first capped at 60 W on an 18650, the second rated to 100 W and compatible with 18650, 20700 and 21700 cells.
The G Class V2, a 200 W dual-cell mod, completes the trio of box mods featured on the maker’s site. The SL Class V2 and the MX Class are still listed with full product pages, but with no “new” badge and no featured slot.
What the SXmini catalogue says about box mods
The file that feeds the catalogue on the official site holds 48 product entries. How they split says a lot about where the brand is heading, and it tempers the image of a high-end box mod specialist.
Nineteen box mod entries, few new arrivals
Box mods take up 19 entries, 12 filed as dual-cell models and 7 as single-cell ones. The total inflates quickly because one mod can appear several times, the first G Class in four finishes plus a gold-plated edition, the original SL Class in four different shells.
Pods have 13 entries on their own. Of the 6 products flagged as new, four are pods (Nex I, PureMax, Puremax 2, Puremax Q) and two are box mods. The brand now launches mostly pods, and recent SX Mini mods that take a removable cell come down to the MQ family.
A classification to read with care
The catalogue files the MQ Class and the MQ Plus among dual-cell mods, although their own product pages describe a single cell. The wrong heading does not change the purchase, but it is a reminder to check the model page rather than the category it sits in.
Retailers follow the same drift. Among the items visible on one retailer’s SX Mini brand page, only one is a box mod, the MQ Class, surrounded by pod kits, cartridges and tanks. That shift towards refillable pods echoes what the Observatoire noted with the Aspire Flexus SE, a pod with a replaceable coil.
Current and older generations of SX Mini mods
The catalogue keeps models from different generations side by side, often under similar names. The product pages let you tell them apart without opening the device, by chipset and by dimensions.
| Model | Chipset | Cells | Catalogue status |
|---|---|---|---|
| MQ Plus | SX418J | 1 x 18650, 20700 or 21700 | new, featured |
| MQ Class | SX416J | 1 x 18650 | new, featured |
| G Class V2 | SX750 | 2 x 18650 | featured |
| SL Class V2 | SX730 | 1 x 18650, 20700 or 21700 | active page |
| MX Class | SX480J-BT | 1 x 18650 | active page |
| G Class | SX550J | 2 x 18650 | older generation |
| SL Class | SX485J | 1 x 18650, 20700 or 21700 | older generation |
SL Class or SL Class V2
The original SL Class measures 89 x 41.5 x 31.5 mm and runs the SX485J chipset. The V2 moves to 89.1 x 42.95 x 30.17 mm, the SX730 chipset and a 0.96 inch IPS colour screen. A millimetre and a half of width and the chipset name are enough to settle it.
G Class or G Class V2
The first G Class runs on the SX550J chipset, the V2 on the SX750, with WiFi and online updates. Both are 200 W dual-cell mods, so the chipset reference on a listing is worth reading.
Firmware, manuals and software, how SX Mini mods are supported
The firmware list published by SXmini holds 78 files. It shows which SX Mini mods still get updates and which have stayed on their early versions.
Uneven updates from one model to the next
The most recent file in the whole list is version 5.0 of the firmware for the SX416 chipset, the one in the MQ Class, dated 15 April 2025. At the other end, the last version published for the MX Class goes back to 23 March 2018. The list holds no file for the SX418J in the MQ Plus, even though its product page describes USB firmware upgrades, nor for the SX750 in the G Class V2, which updates over WiFi.
For the G Class V2, the download centre also offers a WiFi repair tool, version 1.6 for Windows. The SXi_Tools and SXi-Q software exist for Windows computers and for Android.
Manuals and their languages
English manuals exist for every current model. The MQ Plus manual is published in English and Italian, the G Class V2 manual in English only, while the SL Class V2 also gets Chinese, French and German versions and the MQ Class French and Italian ones. For a UK buyer the language question is settled, since every current model has its English manual.
Buying an end-of-line or second-hand SX Mini
An ageing range circulates widely on the second-hand market. Two tools from the maker help, the ID verification page and the service policy.
The ID Query check
The product ID, a mix of letters and numbers, sits on the bottom of the device or on the box. The verification page returns the product name, the module, the chipset model, the production date and the date of the last query. That last field matters when buying a used SX Mini, since any earlier check shows up there.
A short, tightly framed warranty
SXmini’s service policy sets the device warranty at 6 months. A claim goes through customer service with a copy of the warranty card, the original receipt and photos or videos. The maker then issues an RMA code, without which no device is handled, and the product goes back to the shop where it was bought.
Opening the casing voids the warranty. Outbound shipping is paid by the buyer, the return trip is free, and handling takes 3 to 7 working days. The request form lists six box mods (G Class, G Class V2, SL Class, Q Class, MX Class, MQ Class), with the MQ Plus falling under “other”.
FAQ
A few questions come up when looking into the brand. The answers below add to the overview without repeating it.
Who makes SX Mini box mods?
The official site is published by Shenzhen SXmini Electronic Co., Limited, with an address in Dongguan, Guangdong province. The chipsets are developed under the YiHi name, which runs its own chipset website.
Is there an app to adjust an SX Mini?
Among recent box mods, the MX Class is the only one set up over Bluetooth, with an app for Android and iOS. Two older models, the T Class and the Q Mini, also offered app control, while the other mods are adjusted with their buttons and screen.
Which SX Mini takes a 30 mm atomiser?
The G Class V2 is the only mod whose official page states 30 mm. The original SL Class lists 26 mm and the Q Mini 25 mm, while the MQ Class, MQ Plus and SL Class V2 pages give no figure, so check the manual before fitting a wide atomiser.
Is the G Class V2 waterproof?
Its page mentions waterproof chips and a dual-CPU design, not a waterproof mod. It remains an electronic device to keep away from water, like any box mod.
Do SX Mini mods offer temperature control?
Yes, on the pages that detail it. The G Class V2, the MX Class and the original SL Class list a range of 100 to 300 °C, and the SL Class V2 page describes constant or dynamic temperature control. The official pages for the MQ Class and the MQ Plus give no range.
SX Mini, a range that is narrowing
The data published by SXmini shows a brand that focuses its launches on pods and now renews a single family of box mods, the MQ. The G Class V2 keeps its featured spot, the SL Class V2 and the MX Class remain available with no visible updates, and the older generations are still listed under similar names.
For a buyer, that means three simple checks, the chipset reference, the firmware list and the ID Query result, set against a 6-month warranty. An SX Mini is therefore chosen as much on how well it is supported as on its spec sheet, a test the Observatoire applies to all refillable hardware.
